POWHERFUL WOMAN – SONJA DEKLERK

With our PowHerFul Campaign, throughout the next few weeks I’ll be featuring some incredible women nominated by this community. 

I’m so honoured to introduce you to Sonja Deklerk.  She is a mental health advocate, jewelry designer, podcast host, wife and mom of 3.  Sonja has had to overcome some dark experiences within her life having to grieve and navigate her father’s death through suicide, her own suicide attempt, and then later witnessing a suicide occur directly in front of her. Through these traumatic events Sonja has learned to change the narrative from “why me?” to “why not me?”  She shares her story openly through her podcast, More than Gold, and many local features in order to dig deep in navigating the joys and sorrows of life and help others in similar situations.  

Though it’s difficult to not take so much away from her story, three important truths she hopes you always know is: 

• You are precious 

• You are of value 

• You are worth more than gold
