POWHERFUL WOMAN – AMANDA HANKI

Our final PowHerFul woman feature is someone who continually faces adversity and overcomes it, yet still has the capacity to advocate for her family and others.  Meet Amanda, mom to Harper.  When her daughter was born, Amanda didn’t realize the type of journey that was ahead for her and her family.  Harper was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1 within her first year, and since that moment, she has been fighting for her sweet girl’s health.  With the lack of accessibility to treatment for SMA, Amanda has not only stood up and met with government officials for her own family but for other SMA families as well.  She is a pillar of strength and determination, and she is working towards change for kids with this rare disease.

Amanda provided us with amazing advice to share with you.

“Comparison is the thief of joy. It will cripple you in every single area of your life and once you believe in yourself – and I mean really believe in yourself – there’s no need to compare. It diminishes the joy you get from the small things, the things that really matter. “
