POWHERFUL WOMAN – ALICIA SOUVNEY

As we are on the final week of our campaign, I'm so honoured to introduce you to our final PowHerFul woman feature.

Alicia Souvney’s story is the perfect example that you can do anything despite the hurdles that life throws at you.  She has dedicated her career as a pediatric physiotherapist working at the Stollery Children’s hospital serving children in the oncology unit as well has been a trainer for 6 competitive hockey teams. Alicia was severely injured in a car accident in 2019 which required multiple blood transfusions and the amputation of one of her legs. She did not let this stop her. After significant surgeries and rehabilitation, she has given back to the community by supporting blood drives and blood donation. She also learned, tried out for, joined and is a silver-medalist for Canada’s National Para Hockey team, showing everyone that it’s never too late to learn something new. Within this role she’s become a player ambassador for Hockey Gives Blood and on the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) committee for Hockey Alberta. Just this month Alicia received the Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal for turning her disability into a platform to build her community.

She continues to inspire and empower those with disabilities. Please join me in congratulating Alicia, a truly inspirational woman!
